Goin' Back to Cali

Pretty creative title huh?  Now, how many people are singing the song in their head?

California has been good to me as far as competition goes.  In college, I scored my 1,000 point on the basketball court at UC-Santa Cruz.  Go Banana Slugs!  In 2009, I competed in the last CrossFit Games to be held at the Ranch in Aromas.  So now, I return one more time for my first Strongwoman competition outside of Texas (and my first time flying since 2009, but that is another story).  It is being put together by the 5x America's Strongest Woman, and it is LEGIT!  The events are incredible and the weight is heavy.  Am I ready?  I will let you know in two in a half weeks when I board the plane to San Diego.  That is...if I survive my pre-contest training with Jill.

Today was my first workout geared specifically for the competition.  And that shit was no freaking joke.  Just when you think you are already busting ass in the gym, it gets even harder.  But I love training for strongwoman events and wouldn't want it any other way.  (Don't mention that to my coach!) Plus, I truly believe that this contest will get me more prepared for Nationals than anything else out there.

This will only be my fourth contest in strongwoman...so I am still learning the ins and outs of events and correcting form every time I turn around.  I started my strongwoman training one week prior to my first contest, which I entered because it looked like "fun".  And guess what, it is just that...fun!  Something I needed in my life as a recovering professional drunk.  I put my body through hell for 27 years with alcohol, now I do by lifting, dragging, flipping, and carrying heavy weight.  And I will do it every damn day until they have to drag my body out of the gym...or the barn.
